Writer-in-Training

• Wrote stories, novels, poems, news articles, and academic papers.
• Responsible for entertaining family and friends with knowledge of spelling and grammar.
• Worked under tight deadlines to produce materials worthy of high grades in literature and reading classes.
• Accomplished at spending entire afternoons curled in a corner with a notebook and pen, creating worlds within worlds.
• Eventually became editor-in-chief for college newspaper.
• Published short stories and poems in student publications.
• Graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors in English, 1995, Huntingdon College.

1995-2000

Frustrated Writer

• Studied Greek and Latin classics in the graduate program at University of Iowa.
• Taught high school and college courses.
• Waited tables.
• Proofread financial documents for a (then) Big Five company.
• Worked a series of unsatisfying jobs before realizing what I really wanted was to do what I'd always done: Write.

2000-2010

Professional (Happy) Writer

• Work closely with business owners, marketing consultants, publications, and individuals to create focused, effective content that supports their goals.
• Research and maintain current knowledge of industry events and trends.
• Conduct business writing seminars and training sessions for engineers, attorneys, and other professionals.
• Manage all aspects of promotion, marketing, and selling my own services.
• Produce content for sales collateral, brochures, websites, press releases, case studies, and many other forms of corporate communication.
• Write and manage a variety of blogs, newsletters, and social media profiles for clients.
• Write articles and news stories for a variety of publications.
• Make friends with my clients.
